This comes just in time - a day before the movie opens. I believe am good at predicting story lines. While watching "Unakkul Oruvan" I predicted even before interval that, Kamal's intention is definitely not to release the terrorists and during climax when he asks them to board a car, I was 100% sure that they will be blown apart - no I never knew what "The Wednesday" was about. There are several other instances I can quote to bring legitimacy to this post, but I will limit myself to just one and get to the point of this blog - my prediction of the story of Ravanan - based on the trailers and lyrics.
The Roles first:
Vikram - A brave member / leader of a tribal group living in a forest with their entire livelihood dependent on the forest.
Prithvi - A Police officer set against the tribals
Aishwarya - Prithvi's wife in an unhappy and possibly new marraige (may be because she was forced into it). I think so because trailer sequences show her as having fallen for Vikram - but yes it could be a dream sequence. Thats my best Guess anyway!
The theme:
Land Rights Issues - Land rights issues are simmering across many parts of our country like Singur (Tata Nano), Orissa(Posco), Chattisgarh etc. The root of Maoist struggle can be traced to land rights conflicts between tribals and the corrupt Government. The destruction of livelihood of the native dwellers of land, cleared for industry is often not adequately compensated. This results in violent protests and even movements like Maoists as we have seen. This currently hot issue is what I believe Mani has chosen this time.
The story:
A tribe living in the forest, which Vikram is part of, is asked to vacate their land for the establishment of industry/dam etc. They are given a raw deal by the Government and not adequately compensated for the loss of their entire livelihood dependent on the forests. When they protest, force is used against them. Prithvi is likely the officer in charge of controlling the tribals. Vikram and a team of brave tribals go under cover and fight the establishment. They kidnap Aish to safegaurd themselves. This struggle and how Vikram and team, with people's support, fight back forms the crux of the story.
Climax:
Unable to cope with the protest and loss the Government abandons the industrial project and gives people their land and livelihood back. But the protesters headed by Vikram will continue to remain under cover to safegaurd people's interests in the future with people's support. Or Mani might show them like getting pardoned and joining the mainstream.
What happens to Aish?
There could be a Ramayan like twist (a tall claim indeed!!). She goes to Prithvi who doubts her purity. She ditches him and comes back to Vikram and joins the struggle. There is a possibility of something like this given the popularity of this controversy in Ramayan about Ram doubting Sita's purity.
Lets see if the real "Ravanan" opening tomorrow has any relevance to my story!! My eagerness to see Ravanan has multiplied big time. Hope to watch it before any of you reading this watch and start the mockery!!
